Minister for Transport Chantal Rouleau Visits the Maritime Simulation and Resource Centre (MSRC)

30 April 2019

On March 19, 2019, Chantal Rouleau, Québec’s Minister for Transport, visited the MSRC facilities in the Port of Québec. Minister Rouleau toured our facility, met with our staff and even took the wheel in one of our simulators.

Carl Robitaille, President of the Corporation of Lower Saint Lawrence Pilots (CLSLP) provided the Minister with a brief history of the MSRC, information about pilotage in general and why the CLSLP are such strong believers in continued training. The Centre’s Director Paul Racicot explained that the centre relies on a highly-trained and skilled workforce as well as on the pilots themselves to provide top notch services to its clients.

Mrs. Rouleau was impressed with the facility and to learn about all the information that a pilot must process while carrying out his or her duties: tides, currents, weather conditions, maritime regulations, just to name a few. She was also pleased to learn that the MSRC is classed as one of the best maritime simulation centres in North America. “I was really interested in learning what the MSRC does so that I have a good understanding of what is happening in my own backyard and I am proud to learn that Québec is one of the world’s leaders in this industry.”
