Rehabilitation of the Port-Cartier docks

2022

Client : ArcelorMittal Mines and Infrastructure Canada

ArcelorMittal management is preparing to carry out repairs to the Port-Cartier docks. In order to plan the work, minimize the impact of ship maneuvers on the docks under repair, and minimize disruption to regular port operations, ArcelorMittal has decided to test certain options by conducting real-time maneuver simulations.

ArcelorMittal has commissioned the MSRC to test the several options of berthing and unberthing operations with Capesize and Babycape vessels. The vessels selected for these simulations represent the types required for the trials and are already maneuvering at the Port-Cartier dock.

Experienced pilots performed the maneuvers necessary to validate the project. Observations and recommendations were formulated to ArcelorMittal to adequately plan its dock reconstruction work.
