Port of Montreal Dock 101 Optimization
Year : 2022
Client : Montreal Port Authority
The Corporation Internationale d’Avitaillement de Montréal (CIAM) is developing an airport fuel terminal project, as well as the connections necessary for its reception and transportation, in order to supply three major airports, including Montreal, in a more reliable and secure manner.
Since March 2014, CIAM has carried out a rigorous environmental impact assessment and consultation process on the project. The Office of Public Hearings on the Environment (BAPE) issued a report recognizing the appropriate location of the project with recommendations regarding its implementation.
To this end, the Directorate of the Montreal Port Authority (APM) plans to make modifications to Pier 101 in order to optimize its use. These modifications would consist of a series of dolphins located such that the alignment of the face of the dolphins is approximately 032.5°/212.5° (measured on the screen of the operator) and that the total length between the contact points with platforms 100 and 102 is approximately 265 meters (measured on the operator’s screen). This new configuration would allow large ships to dock while leaving adequate space at piers 100 and 102 for the berthing of other ships that regularly maneuver there.
In order to verify the feasibility of the project, the APM called on CSEM to carry out a series of simulations at modified Pier 101. The aim will be to ensure that under normal operating conditions, large ships will be able to dock and set sail safely.
The ships chosen for these simulations are representative of the ships that regularly maneuver at these docks.
